Belvidere N. prevails at Detweiller
Defending Class 2A champion Belvidere North edged Oak Park-River Forest 102-105 to win the 23rd annual Peoria Notre Dame Invitational at Detweiller Park.
The boys race was delayed for almost two and half hours due to weather
Senior Jack Driggs, who finished third in Class 3A last season, took first in 14:30, leading York to third place with 127 points.
O'Fallon (164 points) and Lake Zurich (206 points) finished fourth and fifth in the loaded 58-team field.
Senior Paul Zeman (14:43), the defending Class 2A champion, and sophomore Tyler Yunk (14:44) went 4-5 in leading Belvidere North to the title.
Junior Malachy Schrobilgen (14:37), senior Jack Stapleton (14:48), and senior Peter Hogensen (14:55) took second, seventh, and ninth in leading Oak Park-River Forest.
Sophomore Alex Mimlitz (15:02) and senior Ron Hedmen (15:03) took 16th and 17th place in aiding York.
Alex Riba (14:56) finished 10th in supporting O'Fallon.
Senior Alex Brend (15:09) took 23rd place in helping Lake Zurich to fifth place.
Palatine junior Anthony Gregorio (15:11) took 28th place with the Pirates (294 points) finishing in eighth place.
Schaumburg senior Travis Morrison (15:05) and sophomore Evan Prizy (15:13) finished 19th and 29th, leading the Saxons (297 points) to ninth place.
"We looked a little flat, but we ran faster today than we did last year at this meet," said Schaumburg coach Jim Macnider of the Saxons performance. "Overall I was pleased - we were able to run on the state course and in a large field. That experience should help."
Junior Erik Peterson (14:59) took 14th, leading Barrington (380 points) to 12th place.
Senior Ryan O'Donnell (14:58) finished 12th, helping Hersey (611 points) to 22nd place.
