West Dundee's Heritage Fest features music, chili cook-off
Now that the summer temperatures have dropped off and the leaves on a few trees have started to turn a slight orange color, it must be time for football season.
Oh, and Heritage Fest in downtown West Dundee.
The three-day festival kicks off Friday evening with Battle of the Bands concert at Grafelman Park, which will give young local bands the opportunity to showcase their talents and vie for a spot on the Main stage on Sunday. Food and beer vendors will be open from 6 p.m. in the downtown area. A fireworks show along the Riverwalk at 8 p.m. will cap off the opening night festivities.
The festival will get into full swing on Saturday, with a classic car show, business expo, antiques fair and arts and crafts fair opening at 10 a.m.
If you think you and a buddy have what it takes to win the corn hole or Baggo tournament, register now for your chance to win a prize. The tournament is limited to 20 teams for Saturday and 20 teams for Sunday. Get you entry in now.
Live music downtown and at the gazebo in Grafelman Park will keep visitors entertained as they stroll through the historic streets of West Dundee. There will also be an outdoor movie on Saturday night in Grafelman Park. The movie, which starts at 7 p.m., will be "UP."
Sunday's events mirror the previous day's schedule, but local chefs can try their hand in the Chili Cookoff from noon to 3 p.m., Sunday in Grafelman Park.
A $5 donation will get you a chili tasting kit and a ballot. All tasters will vote for their favorite team in the categories of Best Smokin' Hot Champion Chili and Smokin' Hot Booth / Best Showmanship.
