Scouting St. Viator at Carmel
St. Viator (2-0) at Carmel (2-0)
When: 7:30 p.m. today at Baker Stadium
Last week: St. Viator d. Dunbar 28-20; Carmel d. Libertyville 55-27
Outlook: Starting 3-0 for the fifth time in six years and winning a third straight game at Carmel wouldn't be easy under normal circumstances. But Viator coach Chris Kirkpatrick said starting QB Cameron Korab (199 yards passing last week) is out with a high ankle sprain, LB Marcus Niro is out injured and DL Anthony Pensa's status was questionable earlier this week with an injured knee. "It happens, it's football," Kirkpatrick said. Frank Laterza, who also had to leave last week's game with a busted bursa sac in his elbow, will start at QB and Pat O'Malley returns this week for Niro. Carmel has already put up 111 points with its dangerous triple option fueled by QB Brian Serio and backs Michael Panico (384 yards, 4 TDs) and Jordan Kos (289 yards, 5 TDs). "They're fast and speed never has a bad day," Kirkpatrick said. "We're going to have to play assignment football and we're looking forward to it. We've always liked playing them and we've had some success." The two teams haven't met since Carmel's 35-11 road win in 2007 but Viator won at Carmel 43-42 in OT in 2006 and 42-30 in 2004.
