Scouting Hoffman Estates at Hersey
Hoffman Estates (0-1) at Hersey (1-0)
When: 7:30 p.m. today at Roland Goins Stadium
Last week: Hoffman lost to Bartlett 25-3; Hersey d. Oak Lawn 47-14
Outlook: The Dragan Teonic era got off to a bit of a tough start with a 14-point deficit but Hersey responded with its biggest offensive outburst in six years behind QB Brad Zaucha (4 TDs passing, 3 TDs rushing) and versatile Chris Polinski (221 all-purpose yards). "Our kids go in expecting to win but I was nervous because I didn't know how we were going to respond," Teonic said. "I knew how I was going to respond and how our coaches were going to respond, but any time you face adversity you find out a lot about your character and they were cool customers." The defensive challenge for the Huskies will be Hoffman's option, which had 238 yards on the ground with RB Michael Reeves (156) and QB David Gutierrez. "For Week 1, I was pretty happy with it and our timing between Gutierrez and Reeves was pretty good," said Hoffman coach Bill Helzer. "We have to be able to get to the edge on some jet sweeps." Kevin Pedersen will start at LT for Hersey with injured senior Tom Sutrinaitis held out another week as a precaution. Hersey's last 2-0 start was in 2005; Hoffman leads the series 9-7.
