Scouting Huntley at Wauconda

Huntley (5-5) at Wauconda (4-5)

When: 7:30 p.m., today

Last season: Huntley def. Wauconda, 28-23.

Outlook: Wauconda coach Dave Mills calls it an "early-indicator game." The teams have played each other on Opening Night each of the last three years, and each time the winner went on to make the playoffs. Three years ago, Wauconda won the game. The last two years, it's been Huntley. "Huntley's going to be a great test for us," Mills said. Former Larkin boss Matt Gehrig replaces Steve Graves as the Red Raiders' new head coach. "I hear rumors about what he runs, how he runs it, where he runs it." Mills said. "But until we line up on Friday night, you're never sure."... Wauconda is led by returning all-conference quarterback Brian Kent, who runs the team's shotgun-spread offense, and receivers Brandon Dorsey and Jake Ziolkowski. ... Huntley's offense returns senior quarterback Tim Lycos (5-8, 160), who often used his legs as weapons in the spread offense last year. He was the Red Raiders' second-leading rusher with 544 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also completed 37-of-88 passes for 590 yards and 4 touchdowns and was intercepted 7 times. "It's going to be run first, definitely," Gehrig said of the Huntley offensive philosophy. "We've got a pretty athletic quarterback who has shown some leadership. We're going to let Tim lead the offense."
