Peace Corps celebrating 50 years with local party

The National Peace Corps Association kicks off the 50th anniversary of the Peace Corps with events across the nation.

In McHenry County, Rich and Susan Eyre will be hosting a gathering for local Peace Corps volunteers from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at their home, 3004 Stieg Road, Woodstock.

Meet Jonathan Pearson, the NPCA advocacy coordinator from Washington, D.C. Learn about upcoming activities, including plans for the Peace Corps' 50th anniversary celebration in Washington, D.C., in 2011.

All returned Peace Corps volunteers in northern Illinois are invited to the gathering. People who are interested in learning more about the Peace Corps and parents of volunteers are also welcome.
