St. Viator: Undersized, but thinking big
Almost every week will be a bigger challenge for St. Viator football.
But that's OK with senior defensive end Anthony Pensa, who is one of the undersized Lions' biggest players at 6-feet-2, 240 pounds.
"I think we can be 9-0 if everybody stays focused on the same goal as we all have," Pensa said.
Senior middle linebacker-receiver Mike Krzoska and senior outside linebacker-receiver Justin Johnson also believe big things are possible for Viator.
"The sky is the limit if we execute and prevent mistakes," said Krzoska, who had 110 tackles last year.
"If everyone keeps the tempo going and stays focused," Johnson said, "we could definitely be 9-0."
One of the things the Lions don't plan to do is focus on one or two games and then end up with a letdown if they don't go their way.
"Every game will be our biggest game," said Pensa, in his third varsity season at defensive end. "There won't be that one game to take down an entire season."
All three are solid students with hopes of playing in college. Pensa has Ivy League interest with a 34 ACT and wants to study medicine.
Krzoska is undecided on his plans but scored 28 on the ACT. Johnson wants to study communications and has a solid "B" average.
And they hope to make the grade as a team and go beyond what most people expect.
"A lot of people are looking for us to finish in the bottom half of the conference," Krzoska said. "That's pushed people to work a lot harder and gain some respect throughout our conference."
