Bike through LITH:The Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Department is holding a free Wellness Family Bike Ride at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20. Riders will meet at Ken Carpenter Park at Randall and Miller roads to receive informational handouts and samples from sponsors. Be sure to bring your bike helmet, a water bottle and well-tuned bike. Registration is required for the event and you can sign up by calling the parks and recreation department at (847) 960-7460.Steak fry:The Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 1307 is having a Steak Fry from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 8 at 1601 Weld Road, Elgin. Tickets are $15 until the event. For ticket information call Dorothy at (847) 707-6034 or the Post at (847) 888-9809. Dinner will include steak, potato, salad, vegetable, roll and dessert. All proceeds from the event will benefit veterans.Food pantry hosts sale:The Faith Community Food Pantry is hosting its first community garage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 13 and 14. Participants get an 8-foot by 8-foot space on the Faith Community Church lawn, 10547 Faith Way, Huntley. It costs $20 to register for each day or $35 to register for both. Lunch will be provided for participants. Bring your own tables and chairs. Register at the church or call (224) 569-6501 to request a form to register by mail. You can also donate items that the food pantry will sell during the garage sale. Proceeds from the event benefit the food pantry.Preach and pray in Elgin:The African American Christian Ministry Alliance will be sponsoring a "Street Revival" at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, and Thursday, Aug. 12, at city hall plaza, 150 Dexter Court, in Elgin. Each night will feature praise, preaching, and prayer. The cost is free.Manzullo hosts grant fair:Congressman Don Manzullo is hosting a grant and contract fair for McHenry County business owners and government officials from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 9 at McHenry County College, 8900 U.S. Highway 14, Crystal Lake. The fair will feature informational sessions led by federal agencies, including the Departments of Defense, Education and Homeland Security; it will focus on how to compete for federal funding.
