3 plums (½

pound), peeled and chopped (about 13/4 cups)

2-3 tart red apples, peeled and sliced

2 green apples, peeled and sliced

1 pear, peeled and sliced

1 pint blackberries, blueberries or strawberries (if strawberries, slice in half or thirds)

2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

½

cup granulated sugar

cup firmly packed light brown sugar

cup all-purpose flour

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon cinnamon

½

teaspoon ground ginger

½

cup finely chopped walnuts (optional)

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Butter a 9-by-13 inch baking dish.

In a bowl stir together the plums, red and green apples, pear, berries, lemon juice and granulated sugar; spread mixture evenly into prepared pan.

In another bowl blend the brown sugar, flour, oats, salt, cinnamon, ginger, walnuts and the butter until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle the brown sugar mixture evenly over the fruit mixture and bake 35-45 minutes or until crisp. For a crisper topping, place pan under preheated broiler for 2 minutes.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
