Vernon Hills, Mundelein win

One Robinson is good.

Two is better.

Brothers Mike and Thomas Robinson sparked Vernon Hills' boys volleyball team to a 25-15, 25-14 win over Libertyville in a regional semifinal at Waukegan on Tuesday night.

Mike Robinson, a senior outside hitter, slammed 13 kills on 21-of-23 hitting and also had a block and ace, while his sophomore brother rang up 7 kills.

"The Robinson brothers played really well tonight," Cougars coach Chris Curry said, "and every senior got to contribute."

Senior Spencer Raak was 13-of-13 serving with 3 aces and a team-best 8 digs for Vernon Hills (33-3), which plays Lake Forest at 7 p.m. today in the regional final. The Cougars received 2 kills apiece from seniors Robin Moy, Ryan Steeno and Pat Stone, who also posted 3 blocks. Junior Justin Opitz set 43 of 43 with 20 assists.

Mundelein d. St. Viator: At Warren, Patrick Lentz had 9 kills and 2 blocks, as the Mustangs won the regional semifinal 25-8, 25-13. Mitchell Baumgartner added 6 kills and 2 blocks, and Andrew Roscoe chipped in 3 aces and 19 assists. Mundelein (27-4) faces Stevenson at 7 p.m. today for the regional championship.
