ComEd to host fashion show for seniors:The East Dundee Police Department and ComEd will hold a fashion show to educate seniors on how to avoid being victims of a scam. The event is in response to a number of scams involving people impersonating utility workers to gain access to homes. The fashion show is from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, May 24, at the Dundee Township Park District Senior Center, 665 Barrington Ave., East Dundee.Bunco tournament:The Elgin VFW Post 1307 will host a bunco tournament Sunday, May 23, at the post, 1601 Weld Road, Elgin. The cost is $20 a person to enter and proceeds will go toward breast cancer research. Registration begins at 2 p.m. and games start at 3 p.m. There also will be prizes, a 50-50 raffle and food and drinks available for purchase. For details, call (847) 772-1031 or email colleenmlang@yahoo.com.Road closures in Kane:Daily lane closures of one northbound lane on Randall Road, just north of Thornwood Avenue in South Elgin, will begin Monday and last through Friday. The closure, which will start about 9 a.m., is required to allow for the installation of new storm sewer lines along Randall Road. Beginning May 29, there will be daily lane closures in the vicinity of Route 25 near the Illinois Prairie Path between St. Charles and South Elgin. Closures will be during daytime hours and are needed to allow for new road paving of Stearns Road near the bridge project. The work should conclude June 9. John Millner of Carol Stream will host a local senior citizen spelling bee Tuesday in St. Charles. The contest is open to anyone 50 and older. and local winners will advance to the regional semifinals, with an opportunity to go to the statewide finals at the 2010 Illinois State Fair. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Hunt Club Village, 200 Hunt Club Drive.
