Vernon Hills completes 10-0 run in North Suburban Conference
Thomas Robinson slammed 7 kills, as Vernon Hills' boys volleyball team defeated Lake Forest 25-17, 25-23 Wednesday night to complete a 10-0 run through the North Suburban Conference for the second year in a row.
Pat Stone added 5 kills and 4 blocks for the Cougars, while Justin Opitz dished out 19 assists on 50-of-50 setting and delivered 3 aces.
Vernon Hills (31-3) earned a share of the NSC title two years ago. Lake Forest (1995-97) is the only other team to win NSC titles in three consecutive years.
"We didn't hit as well as we wanted to," Vernon Hills coach Chris Curry said. "But we served tough early and got enough touches on the block to help our defenders."
Mundelein d. Antioch: Mitchell Baumgartner and Patrick Lentz had 11 and 10 kills, respectively, for the Mustangs in their 25-16, 25-17, North Suburban Conference win.
Connor Johnson added 6 kills for Mundelein (26-4, 9-1). Andrew Roscoe was 53-of-54 setting with 31 assists.
Lake Zurich d. North Chicago: The Bears won the North Suburban Conference match 25-12, 25-18.
Kyle Miller had 4 kills for Lake Zurich (4-26, 2-8).
Stevenson d. Libertyville: Danny Gescheidle's 9 kills and Travis Naftzger's 3 kills and 3 solo blocks helped the Patriots win 25-20, 25-18 in their North Suburban finale.
John Baader chipped in 5 kills for Stevenson (21-12, 5-3).
