Apply for District 300 board:Community Unit District 300 is accepting applications for the school board seat vacated by John Ryan. Ryan recently resigned after three years on the board to accept a job that requires him to spend significant time overseas. Application packets can be obtained at the District 300 central office, 300 Cleveland Ave., Carpentersville. The successful applicant would serve until the spring 2011 elections. To apply, you must be a registered voter and a resident of both Algonquin Township and District 300. Applications should be submitted by May 26. The board will interview applicants and select a new member on June 3. The vacancy must be filled within 45 days. The school is closing at the end of this school year because of declining enrollment and budgetary concerns. The event will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the school. The open house features food, prizes and Maplewood memorabilia. Prospect Ave., will donate a portion of its Super Wash and four-wash token packages. Located adjacent to the Fox River Bicycle Trail, The Depot is for walkers, runners, cyclists and in-line skaters. The Depot offers snacks, beverages and a restroom, as well Dundee-themed merchandise. It's open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Extended weekday hours will be added in June.Used cell phones needed: The Central Kane County TRIAD is seeking donations of used cell phones for seniors. Donated phones should be in general working order and have chargers included. They will be made available for seniors to use to call 911 in the event of an emergency. Donations are being accepted in the lobbies of the St. Charles Police Department, 2 State Ave., and the Geneva Township Senior Center, 400 Wheeler Drive. For details, call (630) 232-3602.
