Monday's Fox Valley roundup

The Elgin baseball team won its first home game of the season by rallying from a 4-1 deficit to beat East Aurora 5-4 in eight innings in Upstate Eight Conference play Monday.

Reliever David Penaloza (1-1) earned the victory when the Maroons scored once in the seventh to tie it and another in the eighth to win it.

Alex Doty, Adrian Martinez and Gage Teschner each had 2 hits for Elgin (2-8, 2-3).

Hampshire 3, Westminster Christian 1: Hampshire scored twice in the third inning and added a run in the sixth to defeat the Warriors in a nonconference game under the lights at Wing Park in Elgin. Luke Wians improved to 2-0 for Hampshire (6-7). He held Westminster to 5 hits with 7 strikeouts and 4 walks in a complete-game effort. Will Woodhouse went 2-for-2 and Joe McGannon went 1-for-3 and drove in the only run for Westminster Christian (9-4) in the seventh inning.

St. Charles East 7, Larkin 6: The visiting Royals scored three times in the fifth inning to pull within a run, but the Saints held them scoreless in the sixth and seventh to win in the Upstate Eight. Larkin pitcher Scott Harm (1-3) allowed 4 earned runs in 12/3 innings before leaving with an injury. Reid Ellis and Trevor Whitehead each went 2-for-3, Drew Shore had an RBI double and Miguel Villafane drove in a pair for Larkin (4-11-1, 2-5).

Burlington Central 8, Byron 3: The Rockets used a 12-hit attack to win a Big Northern Conference crossover on the road. Sophomore Tanner Scott homered and walked twice, Nick Hahn went 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI and Zach Romando and Luke Fleming each drove in 2 runs for Burlington Central (17-1).

St. Edward 4, Wheaton Academy 3: Jordan Torres (2-2) earned the win and Jack Sutherland notched the save as the Green Wave triumphed in a Suburban Christian (Gold) matchup at Wing Park in Elgin. Torres also tripled and drove in a run for St. Edward (8-7, 3-3).
