Monday's Fox Valley roundup
Chris Klein (3-for-4, 4 RBI) and Tom Cronan (2 RBI) each hit home runs Monday as Huntley got past Sycamore 10-8 in a nonconference baseball game. Nick Bralich, Jake Perkins (2-for-2, RBI) and Bryce Only each had doubles for the Red Raiders and Klein added a triple. Matt Szytz also contributed 2 hits. Jeremy Ahillen (2-0) picked up the win on the mound for Huntley (8-1).
Immaculate Conception 10, St. Edward 6: Luke Duffy had a double and 2 RBI, Jordan Torres 2 hits and an RBI and Zach Von Ahnen a double but St. Edward came up short in this Suburban Christian Gold game. Torres suffered the loss on the mound for the Green Wave (7-5, 2-1).
Lake Park 8, Bartlett 5: The Hawks gave up 5 runs in the final two innings of this Upstate Eight loss. Greg Partyka had a home run for Bartlett, while Joey Miceli (2 RBI) and Mike Mancuso (2-for-2) also contributed. Mark Morse was the losing pitcher.
Crystal Lake South 10, Grayslake North 0: The Gators (5-5, 3-1) showed consistent offense as they put up 2 runs in 5 out of the 7 innings to cruise to an easy victory over Grayslake North in Fox Valley Conference action. Nick Martin and Mike Benson each went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, the former knocking in 3 runs as well. Alex Macaulay also drove in 3 runs while going 2-for-4 with a double and a triple. Mark Hode (1-0) earned his first victory of the year going 61/3 innings, surrendering just 1 hit, which came in the bottom of the seventh, and striking out 7.
Streamwood 6, Rolling Meadows 2: In his first start of the season, Blake Hunter scattered 6 hits while striking out 9 in a complete-game victory to lead the Sabres (6-4) to a nonconference win. Nate Pearson (2-for-4, HR) and Mike Diebold (2-for-4, 2B) paced the Sabres offensively.
Hampshire 11, Genoa-Kingston 3: Max Shaw (3B) totalled 7 RBI and turned in a 3-for-4 performance at the plate to lead the Whip-Purs (4-6) past Genoa-Kingston in nonconference action. Luke Wians (1-0) earned the victory on the mound as he struck out 13 batters and scattered 7 hits. He also went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Nick Holze (2-for-4, 2R) added a double for the Whip-Purs.
South Elgin 3, Waubonsie Valley 2: Jake Toppel was 2-for-2 with a double to lead the Storm (7-1, 2-0) to an Upstate Eight win. Drew Buddle also drove in a run and Dillion Gardner added a double for the Storm. Sam Jordt (2-1) earned the victory on the mound as he threw a complete-game, 6 hitter.
Burlington Central 11, Winnebago 1: Nick Hahn (4-0) tossed a 2-hitter to lead the Rockets (12-1) to a nonconference win. Jeff Ehlers had a double and 3 RBI while Sam Klein turned in a 3-for-4 performance at the plate for BC. Austin Jarvis and Zack Romando each added doubles for the Rockets.
