Brancato, Hall lead the way for Schaumburg

A big day for sophomores Matt Brancato and Jeremy Hall lifted Schaumburg to an 8-6 nonconference baseball victory over Dundee-Crown on Monday.

Brancato made his first varsity start and allowed only 2 earned runs with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks in 42/3 innings for the Saxons (2-3). Hall got his first varsity hit and drove in 2 runs.

Eric Englund went 2-for-3 with a homer and 3 RBI, Joe Dombek was 2-for-3 with a homer, Joe Infusino went 2-for-3 and Kurt Kempema picked up the save.

Prospect 7, Glenbrook North 3: John Coen (2-0) threw a complete game with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks and went 2-for-4 and Peter Bonahoom hit his second homer for Prospect (3-3) in the nonconference home win. Kyle Kapka doubled twice in 2 at-bats.

St. Viator 7, Elmwood Park 0: Julian Sipiora and Robert Romano combined on a 2-hitter and Louie Cairo homered and had a sacrifice fly for St. Viator (2-2) in the nonconference road win. Sipiora (1-0) allowed 1 hit and 1 walk and had 8 strikeouts in 5 innings and Romano had 2 strikeouts and a walk in the final 2 innings.

Cory Kay went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI for the Lions.

Maine West 8, Elk Grove 4: The Warriors broke it open with a 4-run seventh as Tony Meza got the victory for the Warriors and Arnold Galindo doubled in a game that was scoreless through four innings. Ryan Daubenspeck homered for Elk Grove (2-6).

Palatine 4, Bartlett 3: A two-out, two-strike single by Dan Haze scored Mike Luschen in the third inning and put Palatine (5-4) ahead to stay in the nonconference win.

Phil Brand (1-2) had 4 strikeouts and no walks in 5 innings for the win.

Leyden 1, Morton 0 (8 inn.): Illinois-State bound Dan Savas had to wait eight innings to drive in the run he and Leyden needed in the West Suburban Gold victory. Savas (2-1) went the distance with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk and got the RBI when Morton couldn't turn an inning-ending double play in the bottom of the eighth.

Jeremy Stawychny started the eighth with a walk and pinch runner Tony Cruz stole second and took third on Eli Perez's single. John Marino was 2-for-3 for the Eagles.

Hersey 2, Evanston 2 (61/2 inn.): Hersey junior Joe Perricone got a tough no-decision in a game called going into the bottom of the seventh. In his second start, Perricone allowed 2 hits and 1 earned run and had 12 strikeouts.

Domenic Biagini had Hersey's only hit and Jay Livesay stole 2 bases.
