Student artwork going on display at Dundee Twp. library

The Dundee Township Public Library will host the annual Dunee-Crown High School art show beginning Tuesday, March 16.

Students have been working on their masterpieces for the past year and are now ready to share their creative pieces with the public.

Art teacher Kim Fuller, who has worked at the high school for four years, worked with the students, faculty and library staff to put the art display together.

"There is a great variety of styles and media in the art we've chosen to display, from abstract to super realistic," Fuller said in a news release. "The pieces we chose are the ones that stood out. It really shows when a student has put a lot of time into the idea, technical skill, and composition of their piece."

Library Director Roxane Bennett said the library was excited to host the art show for another year.

"There is a lot of young talent and enthusiasm in our community, and we are glad to provide a place for students to share it," Bennett said.

The public is invited to attend an awards reception at the library on Apr. 10 at 1 p.m. Awards for Best of Show, Teacher's Choice and First, Second and Honorable Mention will be presented. The awards will have been given by a panel of three judges with an art background. Refreshments will be served.

The exhibition will include paintings, drawings, mixed media, collages, metals, sculpture, ceramics, computer generated art, prints, textiles, and weaving. The pieces will be on display until April 13.

Birthday box collection: Don't forget to keep those empty shoe boxes and grab an extra box of cake mix and frosting next time you are at the grocery store.

The Hampshire and Pingree Grove Girl Scouts are collecting items to create "birthday boxes" for local families in need. Scouts of all ages are trying to build more than 400 boxes to donate to the Burlington-Hampshire Area Food Pantry.

The groups will be out and about this week collecting shoes boxes, cake mix, frosting, candles, balloons, birthday napkins, wrapping paper and toys to help a local family in need celebrate a child's birthday.

If the scouts do not stop by your home or you are not when they are go door-to-door, drop boxes will be available at the Hampshire Park District offices, 390 South Ave., The Red Ox Restaurant, 129 E. Oak Knoll Dr., and Citizens Bank, 819 Warner St. The drop boxes will be available from March 13 to 17.
