Elgin names new CFO: Colleen A. Lavery has been tabbed as Elgin's new chief financial officer, replacing the retiring James R. Nowicki, effective May 11, officials announced Thursday. Lavery is a CPA with a master's degree in business administration who has been in the finance industry for nearly 25 years. She has served as the city's assistant finance director since 2005. Nowicki, who has been with the city for 17 years, will retire in May. He is credited with improving the city's financial condition and increasing its bond rating.Disability resources available:Easter Seals DuPage and the Fox Valley Region will host a resource day Saturday, March 6, at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin, for parents, caregivers and advocates of special needs children. The "Family Resource Expo" is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with more than 25 local agencies and community businesses expected to be on site to provide parents and caregivers with resources about disability, such as wills, trusts, estate planning, and parenting and behavior management. Residents also may purchase $30 tickets that include breakfast, lunch, admission to seminars and two speakers. Author Beth Finke is the morning keynote speaker and will share her story about raising a child with disabilities; Lynn DaCosse, a mother of four, comedian and cancer survivor, is the afternoon speaker. For more information, visit eastersealsdfvr.org or call (630) 282-2030.District 3 hosts kindergarten registration: Fox River Grove Elementary District 3 is hosting registration and screenings for kindergartners on March 8 and March 10 at Algonquin Road School, 975 Algonquin Road. Preschool screenings will also be held on the afternoon of March 10 at the same school. Your child must be five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2010, to register for kindergarten for the 2010-11 school year. Bring your child's original birth certificate as proof. If you're registering your child for the first time in the district, you must also bring four proofs of residency, including one of the following: your most recent property tax bill, mortgage papers or a signed and dated lease.
