Kladis, Hinsdale Central move on

In the most important game thus far, once again senior guard Nick Kladis led Hinsdale Central in scoring, with 19 points.

Kladis' scoring and strong defense propelled the No. 18 seed Red Devils to a 43-34 victory over No. 15 Hubbard in a Class 4A Mt. Carmel regional quarterfinal. Ted Vernon added 11 points for Hinsdale Central (8-16), which advances to Tuesday's game against No. 2 seed Mt. Carmel.

St. Francis 69, Montini 36: At the Class 3A Wheaton Academy regional, balanced scoring headed by Mark Schmitt's 12 points led the 14th-seeded Spartans over No. 20 Montini (3-24). St. Francis (13-13) earned a Tuesday rematch against regional host and No. 2 seed Wheaton Academy (24-2), which beat the Spartans 59-46 on Jan. 23.

Fenton 66, CICS-Northtown 46: Terrance Southward and Dan Montano each scored 11 points to boost the No. 3 Bison at the Class 3A St. Viator regional. Fenton (10-17) now faces fellow Metro Suburban foe, No. 2 seed Ridgewood at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Fenton beat Ridgewood 54-50 on Dec. 4 and lost to the Rebels 51-50 on Jan. 22.
