Nominations needed for top volunteers

Without volunteers, Schaumburg's village government could not function. Volunteers are an essential ingredient in local government. There are also volunteers working alone or working within organizations that contribute to the community and should be recognized. Do you know of an outstanding Schaumburg adult volunteer, volunteer youth, or volunteer organization?

Nominations for Schaumburg's Volunteer of the Year, Volunteer Organization of the Year, and Youth Individual Volunteer will be accepted through Thursday, April 1.

"We are looking forward to recognizing outstanding individuals and an organization," said Schaumburg special events coordinator, Roxane Benvenuti. "Again this year, we have included a local youth individual category for junior high through high school age. We need to hear about the good that people are doing and about the fine work that volunteer organizations are involved in."

Winners will be selected by a panel of judges from nominations received from residents and the business community. Nominees can represent social, civic, religious, community, school and medical organizations. For-profit and political organizations are excluded.

Awards will be presented at the annual Volunteer of the Year luncheon, scheduled on Tuesday, April 13, at Chandler's, 401 N. Roselle Rd. in Schaumburg.

Nomination materials are available on the Prairie Center for the Arts Web site at prairiecenter.org. Contact the Schaumburg special events coordinator at (847) 923-3605 or rbenvenuti@ci.schaumburg.il.us for information.
