School District U-46 holds forums on budget reductions

Dr. Jose M. Torres, superintendent of School District U-46, has scheduled six public forums in order to receive feedback from the U-46 community and employees regarding possible budget reductions for next school year.

Attendees at each forum will hear a brief overview of the current revenue shortfalls that are occurring across the state of Illinois, and then hear the list of reductions that were considered by the district's Budget Advisory Task Force. Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to provide input on areas of potential reductions using an online survey. Computer labs will be available at the conclusion of each forum for individuals who do not have Internet access at home.

"I believe our communities will see that there are no easy budget cuts," said Torres. "More importantly, these forums will provide the public and our employees the opportunity to give their recommendations for reductions before any final decisions are made," he added.

Forum dates include: 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, Streamwood High School auditorium, 701 W. Schaumburg Road; 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, South Elgin High School auditorium, 760 E. Main St.; 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, Elgin High School library, 1200 Maroon Drive; 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, Larkin High School auditorium, 1475 Larkin Ave.; and 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, Bartlett High School, room A130, 701 Schick Road.
