Collection for Haiti:People Made Visible will collect items for relief efforts in Haiti from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Rockwell building, 108 Sherman St., behind St. Michael's United Church, in West Chicago. For details, contact peoplemadevisible@me.com or (815) 751-0551.'Souper bowl' to feed hungry:The day before the big football game, Fox Valley United Way is joining with area grocery stores, including seven Jewel-Oscos, in a "Souper Bowl of Caring" event to replenish shelves at the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry and Kendall County Food Pantry in Yorkville. People shopping for their Super Bowl parties are asked to buy a few extra items to give to United Way volunteers stationed inside the participating supermarkets. The volunteers will accept donated items from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jewel-Osco stores on Eola Road, W. Galena Boulevard and N. Lake Street in Aurora; Veterans Parkway in Yorkville; Orchard Road and Route 30 in Oswego; and North Route 47 in Sugar Grove. Other participating stores include Montgomery Market Place, on Douglas Road in Montgomery, and Prisco's Fine Foods on Prairie Street in Aurora.Gladiator Team Challenge: Ten-person teams will compete in a variety of skills competitions when the Fox Valley Park District sponsors its Gladiator Team Challenge from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Vaughan Athletic Center, 2121 W. Indian Trail Road, Aurora. Participants will compete in relays, obstacle courses, circuits, distance and accuracy throws, a tug-of-war and even the limbo. The college's sixth annual Volunteer Tax Assistance program will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays at 5 East Galena Boulevard through April 15, with the exception of March 17 and 20, when the site will offer help with the Free Application for Federal Student Assistance. Families with annual incomes of less than $50,000, and individuals earning less than $25,000 a year are eligible for tax assistance. Clients should bring copies of their 2008 tax returns, W-2 forms, all 1099 forms from 2009, photo identification and Social Security cards for household members.
