Addison school places third:A team of high school students from Technology Center of DuPage in Addison recently placed third in the management competition at the 2010 Illinois ProStart Student Invitational. The annual event, held last month at Kendall College in Chicago, was hosted by the Illinois Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. Technology center team members included Brian Francis of Burr Ridge; Savannah Stromberg, Downers Grove; Joseph Wegner, Warrenville; and Francisco Aguirre, Brookfield. The students developed a comprehensive business plan for a restaurant of their own design, presented the plan and defended it before a panel of judges.Football, cheer signup:Villa Park Warriors youth football and cheer registration is slated for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Willowbrook High School, 1250 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Registration is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 14. The fee is $185 with a minimum $25 nonrefundable deposit due at registration. The Learning Labs - such as Wheels, Levers Pulleys and GeoSpace - offer hands-on, interactive experiences that help children form intuitive understandings of integrated science and mathematical concepts through open-ended exploration. During Learning Labs, children manipulate levers, pulleys, magnets, shapes or simple machines to form a better understanding of abstract mathematical and science concepts. The labs serve more than 22,000 students a year from kindergarten through fifth grade in more than 30 school districts.Kids raise $1,500 for resource center:A Glen Ellyn elementary school's drama club raised more than $1,500 to help a children's resource center based out of the school. Students of Abraham Lincoln Elementary School's fifth grade drama program performed "KYDZ Radio" on Saturday. In lieu of selling tickets, the group asked for donations at the door for the Glen Ellyn Community Resource Center, which focuses on children from low-income families. The program's co-chair Lisa Zorrilla said the event raised a total of $1,584.
