Less than 16 hours after earning his milestone 700th career win, Maine West coach Derril Kipp collected No. 701 in an 11 a.m. game Saturday in the Sweet Sixteen tournament in Oak Park.

In a 47-34 loss to Sandburg, West was led by Samantha Acosta's 15 points (four 3-pointers) and 8 from Megan O'Neill.

Schaumburg (5-20) also dropped a 48-46 decision to Providence Catholic as Taylor Kosla rang up a team-high 17 pits with 3 3-pointers and Alyssa Saklak added 15.

Barrington splits: Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro was pleased with how her team (14-10) bounced back from Friday's conference loss to Fremd.

The Fillies defeated Johnsburg 43-41 as junior Abby Kirchoff (3 steals, 3 rebounds) scored 16 points with 3 3-pointers. Emily Harris added 8 points with 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal.

Sarah Mass (3 rebounds, 4 assists) and Shelby Whigham (3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals) also played key roles in the win.

In a 42-34 loss to Hinsdale Central, Mass had 3 steals and 2 rebounds while Nicole Collins recorded 3 assists and 2 rebounds.

"After such a tough game the night before, I thought we played two games pretty well against two pretty good opponents," Barreiro said. "We had a lot of kids contributing off the bench and I feel good about the direction we're going."

Fremd drops two: Seniors Gianna Abruzzo and Taylor Glassman each scored 12 points for the Vikings in a 51-47 loss to New Trier while freshman Ashley McConnell added 9 and Bridget Kubis 8.

Abruzzo's 6 points led the Vikings (18-8) in a 58-29 loss to Marian Catholic.

Buffalo Grove drops two: Heather Nisbet scored 14 points and Andrea DiPrima added 9 for the Bison (8-18) in a 53-39 loss to St, Charles North.

The Grens improved to 20-4 under second-year coach Ryan Kirkorsky, whose team was 16-12 a year ago.

Kirkorsky called freshman Kelly Naughton the "star " of the game as the 5-foot-6 guard contributed a career-high 12 points.

"Friday night, we kind of wilted under the pressure," Kirkorsky said. "And Zion-Benton gave us a lot of pressure this game so it was essential to have two ballhandlers and Kelly really stepped up as our second one. Kelly was the key to the game for us."

Senior point guard Olivia Roback, the other ballhandler, finished with 7 points and 4 steals.

Warren 41, Hoffman Estates 33: Senior Megan Bernardoni (11 points) led the host Hawks (19-5) in the nonconference game.

Sophomore Mary Pettit added a pair of 3-pointers for 6 points while junior Jada Stotts (5 points) had one 3-pointer.

The game was tied at 7 after one quarter and Hoffman 14-13 at the break.

Hoffman was 3-of-25 in the first half and 12-of-50 for the game while Warren made 10-of-26.

"Warren is very physical and very quick," said Hawks coach Mike Nocella, whose team lost for only the second time in 17 games. "We just couldn't buy a basket."

On the boards, the Hawks were led by Stotts (8), freshman Destinee Young (8) and junior Precious Ogunleye (5). Senior Kelsey Lukowicz handed out 3 assists while Pettit had 2.
