Hoffman HS principal named assistant superintendent

Hoffman Estates High School Principal Terri Busch has been named Palatine-Schaumburg District 211 assistant superintendent for instruction.

Busch will replace the retiring Jeffrey Butzen at the end of school year. Butzen leaves his post after 32 years at District 211, the state's largest high school district.

The means Busch will be moving over to the administration center in Palatine. She joined the Hoffman Estates High School staff in 1983 as an English and reading teacher. She's been principal since 2002.

"She is well-known throughout the district, and given the district's increased expectations for student achievement, Terri's curriculum knowledge, leadership skills and other experiences from Hoffman Estates High School will be a great asset to her new position," District 211 Superintendent Nancy Robb said.

Busch isn't the only District 211 employee gaining a new title. Samantha Dolen, the district's director of curriculum and student services, was named as assistant superintendent for student services. She'll have most of the same responsibilities as in her previous post.

"Dr. Dolen has proven herself in her role as director, and I could not think of a better person that brings more experience in this area," Robb said.

Dolen has held her past post since 2009. She started in 2005 at Hoffman Estates High School as student services director, then moving in 2008 to District 211's director of instruction improvement. Dolen came to District 211 in 2000 as a science teacher at Conant High School in Hoffman Estates. She also taught six years at East Peoria High School.

Butzen, who is retiring, began as a math teacher in 1978 at Palatine High School. A decade later he became the district's assessment coordinator. Officials named him in 1992 as an assistant to the superintendent. He become the assistant superintendent for curriculum in 2003 and was appointed to his post as associate superintendent for instruction in 2008.
