Variety of programs at South Elgin Parks and Recreation

Shapes & Numbers: Make learning your shapes and numbers fun! Your child will have a blast learning through games, crafts, and songs with their peers. This class will help them with their social skills as well as fine motor skills. This class will be held from 9:50-10:20 a.m. Mondays at the Municipal Annex. The class begins Jan. 4 and ends Feb. 22. The cost is $37 for residents and $42 for nonresidents.

Tots N' Tunes: Bring your imagination and we will supply the music and fun each week with a different theme. Your child will practice their gross motor skills, playing various musical instruments, waiting their turn, singing and dancing, as well as popping bubbles and parachute play. This class will be held from 6:10-6:50 p.m. Tuesdays at the Municipal Annex. The class begins Jan. 5 and ends Feb. 16. The cost is $37 for residents and $42 for nonresidents.

Mini Maestros: This is an introductory class to music and social interaction. Class includes interaction with music, instruments and of course peers and parents. Children will have fun creating music, singing songs and playing games. This class will be held Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6 p.m. at the Municipal Annex. The class begins Jan. 5 and ends Feb. 16. The cost is $37 for residents and $42 for nonresidents.

South Elgin Youth Volleyball: Register now for youth volleyball for third to eighth grade. Practice will be held 1 day a week for an hour and games are played on Saturdays beginning March 6. Registration deadline is Jan. 18, after this date, a $20 late fee will be enforced. The cost is $75 for residents and $85 for nonresidents.

Fitness Winter Drop-in Classes: During the holiday season, it is tough to run a consistent fitness class. They are going to use this opportunity to offer drop-in classes. You choose the class you would like to attend and pay $5 at the door or use your Fitness Punch Card for each class. All classes are held at the municipal annex and run Dec. 21 to Jan. 7.

Screen Printing: Screen printing allows an image to be repeatedly printed on a variety of materials. Screen printing can be used on clothing, greeting cards, and scrapbooking. During this class, participants will learn the techniques of stencil, drawing fluid, screen filler, and photo emulsion. Students will have freedom to choose what they would like to print on, as well as subject matter, however, ideas and inspiration will be provided. This class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays at South Elgin High School. The class begins Jan. 12 and ends Feb. 23. The cost is $75 for residents and $80 for nonresidents.

Cake Decorating: In this beginner's class, you will learn how to decorate a cake, step by step. You will make butter cream frosting, properly level and frost a cake, make decorative borders and simple flowers. Decorating supplies will be provided for each class. You will need to provide a round 8-inch baked cake and butter cream frosting on the final week of class. You will decorate the cake from start to finish and take the masterpiece home to enjoy with your family. Bring a notebook. This class will be held from 6:45-7:45 p.m. Thursdays at the Municipal Annex. The class begins Jan. 14 and ends Feb. 4. The cost is $27 for residents and $32 for nonresidents.

Bunco: Bunco is a game of dice, played in rounds. Players take turns rolling the dice and trying to accumulate as many points as possible to win each round. Bunco will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays at River Crossing community room. The class runs Jan. 7 to Feb. 25. The cost is $1 per day. You will start with pizza for lunch and then bunco at 11:30 a.m.
