Schaumburg Township school foundation awards grants
The Schaumburg Township Elementary School Foundation recently announced the funding of $25,000 in grants to Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 staff members.
Recipients were notified of their awards last month and will be presented with certificates during a school board meeting next month.
The foundation's $5,000 Super Grant was awarded to a team of educators at Hoover Elementary School in Schaumburg for their proposal titled "How Does Hoover's Garden Grow?"
Focusing on life sciences, this program will provide for the building of a greenhouse in which students will work with senior friends from Friendship Village in Schaumburg to grow fresh produce.
Students will form an intergenerational partnership to make a positive difference in the lives of the less fortunate. Ultimately, the "fruits of their labor" will be donated to the Schaumburg Food Pantry.
Money for the foundation's grants is raised through a series of annual fundraisers, the next being Mardi Gras & Casino Night 2010 on Feb. 19 at The Stonegate in Hoffman Estates.
