Friday's Lake County roundup

Round Lake's boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season Friday night.

The Panthers defeated host Wauconda 50-44 in the teams' North Suburban Prairie Division opener.

Round Lake (1-5) received 15 points from John Martinez, 12 from Jake Paulsen and 10 from Juddon Carter.

The Panthers enjoyed a 15-point advantage late in the fourth quarter.

"We played excellent defense all night long and played very unselfishly," Round Lake coach Howard Kravets said. "We did a good job of putting pressure on the ball, which is something we've been working on."

Wauconda (2-3) played again without senior guard Matt Stonis (ankle), who has yet to play this season.

Eric Hartnett led the Bulldogs with 19 points.

Carmel 73, Joliet Catholic 60: The host Corsairs won the East Suburban Catholic Conference opener, as five players score in double figures.

Doug Meyer led the way with 19 points, including five 3-pointers.

Carmel (4-3) also received 13 points from Connor Sexson, 12 from Daniel Feld, 11 from Jonathan Huisel and 10 from Pat Cox.

Grayslake Central 48, Lakes 43: Josh Rappaport scored 25 points, as the Rams won the nonconference game.

Rappaport was coming off a pair of 24-point efforts.

Grayslake Central improved to 2-4, while dropping Lakes to 0-7.

John Androus had 15 points for the Eagles.
