Shop with a Cop in Lombard:

Christmas will come this weekend for a group of local children, thanks to the Lombard Police Department's "Shop with a Cop" program. On Saturday morning, members of the department and the Lombard Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association will take 17 children to the Target store in Lombard. The children will be able to shop for gifts for each of their family members. They also will receive gifts from their wish lists. Once the shopping is complete, the children will go to village hall where volunteers will help them wrap the presents. A lunch and visit from Santa Claus is planned.

Holiday concert at WW South:

Wheaton Warrenville South High School's band program is presenting its annual free holiday concert 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the school, 1920 S. Wiesbrook Road, Wheaton. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. This year's program is entitled, "Holiday at the Movies." The concert will support the People's Resource Center and guests are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to benefit the center.

Electronic recycling opportunity:

Wheaton's final electronic recycling collection event is planned for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 5, at the public works storage facility, 821 W. Liberty Drive. Acceptable electronics include computers, laptops, monitors, keyboards, mice, cables, printers, modems, external hard drives, copiers, fax machines, cell phones, calculators and TVs. Breakfast with Santa:

The annual Breakfast with Santa event sponsored by the Warrenville Park District and Warrenville Kiwanis Club will be held 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Courtyard Banquets along Route 59 in Warrenville. The event includes a breakfast buffet, a visit with Santa Claus, and a small complimentary gift bag for the children. Preregistration is required at the park district's recreation center. The cost is $11 per adult and $7 per child. Children 2 and under are free with a registered adult. Seating is limited to the first 350 people. For details, call (630) 393-7279.

We Grow Dreams open house:

We Grow Dreams, Inc., a nonprofit organization, is hosting its annual Holiday Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at We Grow Dreams Greenhouse and Garden Center, 1055 W. Washington St., West Chicago. Founded in 2005, We Grow Dreams operates the greenhouse and garden center to provide people with disabilities an opportunity to work in a supportive environment while providing products and services to the community. The open house will feature the group's signature balsam reindeer, poinsettias, indoor holiday plants, fresh greens and wreaths and more.
