Event raises $2,000 for S. Elgin High athletics

A South Elgin High School fundraiser recently netted almost $2,000 for sports programs.

The first "Ford Drive For Your School" fundraiser on Oct. 17 was a big success for the boys wrestling and girls gymnastics team. Almost $2,000 was raised to help the school's athletes go to camps and to purchase equipment and uniforms. The girls gymnastics team is made up of girls from South Elgin, Bartlett and Streamwood high schools.

Ron Hopkins Ford in Elgin brought several new model Fords to the fundraiser for test drives. For each test drive, Ford donated $20. In addition, there was a pizza-tasting contest with food donated by seven pizza restaurants in South Elgin. For $4, tasters were able to sample slices of pizza from the restaurants and vote on their favorite. In addition, a concession stand run by the gymnastics team sold chips and drinks. The wrestlers did their part by holding signs at nearby intersections and directing traffic to the event.

Participating restaurants were: Aurelio's Pizza, where the restaurant manager also donated her time; Giordano's; Italian Dreams Pizza & Pasta; Papa Saverio's Pizzeria; Pizza Cucina; Pizza Hut; and Pasta Mia, who also donated the time of two employees, Ciara Watts and Sara Asta. Pasta Mia received the most votes for favorite pizza.

They wish to thank all of the sponsors and the community for their support of the student athletes.
