Playoff history Providence, from the Chicago Catholic League's Blue Division, is a state playoff fixture. The Celtics are 76-20 in their playoff history and have won 9 state titles and finished second twice. The last time they did not appear in the playoffs was 1990 and they've only missed out on being in the postseason five times since the playoffs began in 1974. Cary-Grove, the Fox Valley (Valley) champion, is 26-15 since first making the playoffs in 1980. This is the Trojans' sixth straight postseason appearance. They finished second in Class 7A in 2004.

Playoff road Providence beat Harlan 41-7, Oswego 16-10 in OT, Crete-Monee 44-14 and Danville 30-21 to reach the title game. Cary-Grove defeated St. Viator 57-21 in the first round, then Highland Park 48-28, De La Salle 42-0 and Prairie Ridge 40-7 to reach the championship game.
