Three McHenry County teens charged with theft, burglary
Three McHenry County teens have been charged with theft and burglary after stealing assorted items from cars in the Sundial Farms Subdivision in Fox Lake, police said.
Fox Lake Police Chief Mike Behan said a 17-year-old from Spring Grove, a 16-year-old from Fox Lake and 16-year-old teen from Richmond have been charged with three counts each of theft, burglary and criminal trespass to a motor vehicle after breaking into three different cars at about 1 a.m. on Oct. 18.
The names of the three are being withheld by police, Behan said.
He said the three were wandering through the subdivision on the village's north side when they started opening cars that were left unlocked and stealing items.
He said a drill, a purse, credit cards, an I-Pod, MP3 players and about $50 in change were taken from the vehicles.
"This is why we always tell people to make sure to lock their car doors at night and to bring any valuables from their car inside at night," he said.
Behan said officials obtained warrants for their arrests Monday afternoon. The three turned themselves into police Monday night, he said.
All three are due to appear in front of a McHenry County judge on Dec. 8 in Woodstock, Behan said.
