PADS Mystery Dinner Theatre

Journeys from PADS to HOPE will host its final event of the year, the Mystery Dinner Theater holiday fundraiser, from 5-10 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Radisson Hotel, 1725 E. Algonquin Rd., Schaumburg.

Proceeds go toward providing emergency shelter, counseling, transitional housing and job training to the area's growing number of homeless and at risk individuals and families.

In this interactive theater event, everyone will receive a character upon entrance, and then it's up to the audience to find the clues and solve the crime. The evening also includes a raffle and silent auction.

Registrations and donations are due Wednesday, Nov. 25.

Journeys from PADS to HOPE, located at 1140 East Northwest Highway in Palatine, provides services to more than 800 homeless and at-risk individuals and families annually from Northwest suburban Cook County.

Celtic Midwinter celebration Dec. 6

The Palatine Park District will put on its Celtic Midwinter Celebration at 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at Cutting Hall, 150 E. Wood Street, Palatine.

The event features Celtic music duo Traveler's Dream, which will present songs to celebrate the winter season, Christmas and New Year, including traditional Celtic carols as well as lively jigs and reels played on the Irish flute, concertina, bouzouki, and tin whistle.

Michael Lewis and Denise Wilson will tell how each song relates to ancient traditions and customs of Ireland, Wales, England and Brittany.

Elk Grove Rotary offers scholarships

The Elk Grove Rotary Club will be giving away a total of $8,000 in scholarships to students who live in Elk Grove Village and attend such schools as Elk Grove, Conant and St. Viator high schools.

Applications are available at those high schools and can also be downloaded from elkgroverotary.com.

In addition to living in Elk Grove Village, applicants must be a graduating seniors with C average or higher grades and be active in the community. The complete list of criteria can be found on the application. They are due by March 2.

Scholarships are awarded for four-year institutions as well as vocational colleges and junior colleges.
