District 54 to host Connecting Generations open house
Citizens in Schaumburg Township and surrounding communities are invited to an open house for the District 54 Connecting Generations Volunteer Program from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road.
The program started five years ago with 30 volunteers. Currently, there are more than 80 volunteers placed throughout the district in a variety of sites and programs. Volunteers are recruited from the community, senior organizations, park districts, senior living facilities and retirees from School District 54.
The goal of the Connecting Generations Volunteer program is to identify the gifts and talents of our senior community members and match those talents to the needs of students and schools. Volunteers can specify the days and hours they are available to work, and may select a particular school within the district. A lot of District 54 schools are in need of volunteers to support programs.
If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, enjoy working with children or helping out in any capacity within District 54 schools and can spare as little as an hour a week, plan on attending and finding out more about the program. This will be a very informative presentation including real-life experiences from some of our volunteers who have participated in the program over the past few years.
Refreshments will be served and information will be made available regarding this successful program. If you have any questions regarding the program please contact the District 54 office at (847) 357-5095 or e-mail YolandaValdes@sd54.org. You may also contact Diana Peters at (847)-357-5035 or e-mail at DianaPeters@sd54.org.
