Marian Catholic to host an open house
On Sunday, Nov. 22, Marian Central Catholic High School, 1001 McHenry Ave. in Woodstock, will open its doors to welcome the families and students who are interested in learning what its faith-based education has to offer them.
It will begin at 1 p.m. with an administrator presentation in the auditorium. The building will be open until 3 p.m., offering opportunities to speak with teachers, tour the facilities and discover the benefits of a Marian education.
Marian is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. In 2010, they break ground on a new addition that will add eight state-of-the-art science classroom/laboratories, as well as a new chapel.
Additionally, each year they update and expand technology in the classrooms, they extend the amount of financial assistance, more than $200,000 in 2009-10, available to families and its athletic and other co-curricular programs continue to thrive.
With a school body of more than 730 students, classes are small enough for students to get to know each other, yet the student body is large enough that they can offer a varied and challenging curriculum.
Teachers and staff are dedicated to the intellectual, physical, religious, spiritual and emotional growth of every student, and they strive to provide the attention, nurturing, and support necessary for a successful high school career.
Each year, more than 97 percent of graduating seniors go on to higher education. Additionally, the Class of 2009 received college scholarships totaling more than $8.1 million. Among the 168 graduates were 41 Illinois State Scholars, six National Merit Commended Scholars, and one National Merit semifinalist and finalist.
Together, the Class of 2009 earned a mean ACT score of 24.1 and five students received a perfect score of 36 on the reading test, four students received a perfect score of 36 on the English test and one received a perfect score on the math test.
