Schaumburg Park Dist. 'excellent' in aquatics

The Schaumburg Park District won the 2009 National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Excellence in Aquatics Award (Class IV) at the recent NRPA Congress & Exposition in Salt Lake City.

It is the third time the park district has been awarded the honor.

"The Schaumburg Park District is honored to achieve such national recognition," said Superintendent of Recreation Vince Kennedy.

"Such acknowledgment is a credit to our hardworking staff, administration, and board who recognize that excellent aquatic facilities and programs fulfill a vital need to our community."

Entries are judged on the implementation of the park district's mission statement, the challenges faced in the previous five years, documentation of fully-trained aquatic staff, promotion of water safety, efforts in prevention of recreational water illnesses, description of full and equal access to facilities and programs, and a description of professional involvement of the aquatic staff at the local, state, regional and national levels.

The Schaumburg Park District mission as it relates to aquatics includes fulfilling the aquatic needs of its immediate and regional constituents through safe and enriching programs at quality facilities.

Aquatic needs are identified through community feedback and addressed through the timely addition of programs and facility renovations.
