Follow in the footsteps of Native Americans and pioneers and learn to create simple birdhouses, bird feeders and other items using gourds at McHenry County Conservation District's "Natural Crafts" program from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road, Crystal Lake.
The program is for adults ages 14 and older, who will bring home at least one finished piece in this hands-on workshop. A $5 per person fee and registration is due by Nov. 11.
• Have you heard about Google Earth and wondered what it is? Join McHenry Count Conservation District on "Global Information Specialist Day" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Woodstock Public Library, 414 W. Judd St. Learn more about this mapping and visualization technology, how it works and how it helps professionals and the public support cultural preservation and land conservation worldwide.
The group will watch a DVD of Rebecca Moore, software engineer turned public-interest advocate, who founded Google Earth Outreach and test drive this technology with the help of the conservation district's GIS specialist.
Bring a laptop, if you have one, but the only requirement is your curiosity. This program is for adults ages 14 and older.
