The McHenry County Young Republicans and Patriots United will hold a candidate forum for the six people running for the seat in the 8th Congressional District. School seeks donations
Hampshire's Gary D. Wright Elementary School is partnering with the union that represents teacher's aides and other school support staff to assemble care packages for servicemen stationed abroad. The school is asking the community to donate pens, paper, magazines, toiletries, non-perishable snacks, CDs, DVDs and other items. Donation boxes will be at the school, 1500 Ketchum Road; Rose Garden Family Restaurant, 199 S. State St.; and Block Brothers, 199 Mill Ave. The school is also inviting the community to attend its Veterans Day commemoration at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the school. Call (847) 683-5700.
League hosts raffle
The Elgin Youth Football League will host a "Turkey Raffle" from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Douglas Street Sports Bar and Grill, 231 Douglas Ave. in Elgin. Raffle tickets are purchased on site; cost is $1 for two numbers. They will raffle off turkeys, hams and steaks, as well as other prizes. There will be a food buffet provided free of charge between 7 and 9 p.m. Proceeds will help provide equipment, field maintenance, and financial aid for those in need. Panel seeks applicants
Huntley Unit District 158 is seeking applicants for its Financial Advisory Committee. The committee is made up of district residents who advise the school board on financial matters. The committee, which meets about four times a year, has two openings.
