PTO seeks donations
The parent-teacher organization at Algonquin's Neubert Elementary School is seeking donations for a 7-year-old boy who was badly hurt this month when a bus rolled over his leg outside Neubert. Suggested donations include cards, art supplies, comic books, children's books, toy cars and gift cards. Items should be dropped off at the school, 1100 Huntington Drive, by Friday, Oct. 30. ECU performs Sunday
The Elgin Choral Union presents "Great Moments in Opera: Opera Choruses II" at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at Elgin Community College's Blizzard Theatre, 1700 Spartan Drive. Selections of perennial favorites and frequently requested opera choruses highlight this concert performed with the Elgin Symphony Orchestra. Tickets are $22, $17 for seniors or $14 for students. Air Force band on tap
The Falconaires, a division of the U.S. Air Force Academy Band, will hold a free performance at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Hemmens Cultural Center. The 18-member Falconaires is one of the Air Force's two top jazz ensembles and plays a mix of traditional and contemporary big band jazz. The event is free, but tickets are required. Panel seeks applicants
Huntley Unit District 158 is seeking applicants for its Financial Advisory Committee. The committee is made up of district residents who advise the school board on financial matters. The committee, which meets about four times a year, has two openings. The Elgin Fire Department and the Elgin Association of Firefighters Local 439 have magnetized pouches available for city residents at any of Elgin's seven fire stations. You can put important medical information in the pouches that can then easily be accessed by paramedics or fire crews during an emergency. Community or neighborhood groups can learn more by scheduling a presentation with Elgin Fire Lt. Bob Bedard by calling (847) 931-6175.
