Schaumburg woman, Larkin grad dies days after crash

A Schaumburg woman who was injured in a car crash in Kane County last week has died, authorities said.

Danielle Hatfield, 20, a 2007 graduate of Elgin's Larkin High School, died early Friday at Rockford Memorial Hospital. She'd been transferred there from Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin following the Monday-morning accident near Pingree Grove.

Hatfield was driving to Northern Illinois University for classes when the accident occurred, said her mother, Deanne Hatfield.

Her daughter was driving west on Plank Road in a 2001 Ford Taurus when she drove off the road near Marshall Road, Kane County sheriff's police said.

The car flipped and came to rest on the road, police said.

No other cars were involved in the crash. The cause was not known.

Hatfield grew up in Streamwood and moved to live with her grandmother in Schaumburg about a year ago, her mother said.

Hatfield studied for two years at the American Academy of Art in Chicago but recently had transferred to NIU, her mother said.

She described her daughter as a strong and talented young woman who enjoyed school.

Hatfield had wanted to donate her organs upon her death. Her heart, lungs and other organs were surgically removed to help people in need, Deanne Hatfield said.

"I pray (her heart) beats on and saves somebody else's life," she said.

Hatfield's survivors include her mother, father, three grandparents and two brothers.

Visitation is scheduled for 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 Greenmeadows Blvd., Streamwood. A second visitation is set for 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Grace Lutheran Church, 780 S. Bartlett Road, Streamwood.

A funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment will be private.
