Addison Trail grant:

For the third consecutive year, Addison Trail High School has received a $750 grant from the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program to support the school's physical education program. The funds will be used to purchase heart rate monitors and other classroom equipment that advance the department's goal to increase students' cardiovascular fitness levels and awareness. Krage's Mobil Servicenter, at 191 E. Lake St. in Addison, worked with the department to secure the grant, which is one of 4,000 available to schools across the country.

Addison Parent University:

Addison parents are invited to attend Parent University from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Indian Trail Junior High School, 222 Kennedy Drive, Addison. Following registration, a free breakfast and opening remarks, four 45-minute workshops begin. Parents will choose from a variety of sessions designed to help them help their children be successful students. Sessions are divided into four tracks: preschool and elementary; middle school; high school; and community. Each track offers a minimum of four topics. Some will be offered in Spanish. Register at the event. Childcare for children ages 3 and older is available. About 30 community organizations and businesses will have information booths parents can visit between sessions.

Retreat for veterans:

Lombard-based Mayslake Ministries will host a retreat Nov. 6-8 to help military veterans cope with post-traumatic spiritual stress at the Cardinal Stritch Retreat House, 1300 Stritch Drive, Mundelein. The free event will be open to all men and women from the Chicago area who have served in the military. The program will be led by Sister Linda McClenahan, a Vietnam War combat veteran who joined a Dominican order of Catholic nuns after coming home.
