Busting drunk drivers:
Reporting a possible drunken driver on the road won't just make you safer. In Crystal Lake, it can make you richer. Crystal Lake police are teaming with the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists (AAIM) for Drunkbusters, a program that gives $100 reward to tipsters whose calls lead to a DUI arrest. Since starting with the program in 2008 there have been 46 $100 awards for calls made to the Crystal Lake Police. This program is funded entirely through court fines paid by DUI offenders and has received awards from the National Safety Council, Ameritech and the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. For more information on the "Drunkbusters" program, including tips on how to recognize a possibly intoxicated driver, visit the AAIM Web site at aaim1.org or call the Crystal Lake Police Department at (815) 356-3620.
