St. Edward earns 7th place at state
Senior Danielle Coffman and the St. Edward girls golf team may not have moved up in the standings as they had hoped Saturday, but they ended the season on a high note nonetheless.
As did Streamwood senior Carly Schneider.
Playing in the Class 1A state meet at Crab Orchard in Carterville, St. Edward matched Friday's 410 for a two-day total of 820 and a seventh-place finish. Coffman fired an 88 Saturday for a two-day 174 and an 11th place finish.
"The results could have been better but this is the best team St. Ed's has ever had and I'm proud to be a part of it," Coffman said. "We've all come a long way and it shows in our game."
The Green Wave also got scores of 100 from senior Erin Schneider, 109 from Kelsey Richmond and 114 from Brittania Scheurs to close out Saturday's round.
In the Class 2A meet in Carbondale, Carly Schneider broke the 80 barrier, shooting a 79 for a two-day total of 159 and a tie for 20th place.
"I just said I wanted to shoot better than I did the day before, move up in the standings and have a fun time," Schneider said. "Being at state was a great opportunity for me and I just wanted to be competitive with the girls in my group."
Hampshire sophomore Connie Ellett matched her 80 from Friday and finished at 160, tied for 25th place. Her junior sister Taylor shot an 84 Saturday for a two-day 169 and a tie for 43rd place. That's also where Bartlett sophomore Samantha Coyne finished after shooting 81 on Saturday.
