Scouting Wauconda @ North Chicago

Wauconda (2-5, 1-3) at North Chicago (1-6, 1-3)

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Last week: Wauconda lost to Vernon Hills, 27-20; North Chicago lost to Antioch, 47-26.

Skinny: This is a game that's been circled all season at Wauconda. The Bulldogs will be going up against their former head coach Glen Kozlowski, who hasn't been gone even a full season yet. Kozlowski coached the Bulldogs to a 4-5 record last season. "I think the kids here are really excited about this game," said first-year Wauconda head coach Dave Mills, who was an assistant for Kozlowski. "I think they want to show that (Kozlowski) left a good group of kids behind. They want to show him that they're a good team." - Wauconda looked pretty darn good in the fourth quarter of last week's loss to Vernon Hills. The Bulldogs scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to take a 20-19 lead with about 1:30 left in the game. But Vernon Hills made a rally of its own and then scored the game winner by recovering its own fumble in the end zone in the final seconds. "We played a really good game against the division leader," Mills said of Vernon Hills. "Our kids never quit. They kept playing, they kept fighting." Wauconda rolled up 374 yards of offense while holding Vernon Hills to just 161 yards on the game. The Bulldogs put together an impressive air show with quarterback Brian Kent rolling up 308 yards on 20-of-39 passes. Kent's main target was sophomore Jake Ziolkowski, who finished with 140 yards on 7 catches. - North Chicago is much more of a run-oriented team and is led by big backs Brandon Davis and Keenan Handy-Kozlowski's Warhawks have had a hard time gaining momentum ever since a Week 2 brawl against Simeon caused them to forfeit their Week 3 game against Vernon Hills.
