Hinsdale Central edges North Stars at SCN invite

While St. Charles North's girls swim and dive team just missed out on the championship they were looking for Saturday at their 10th annual invitational, they still had plenty of strong performances that bode well for some key meets coming up.

St. Charles North finished with 350 points, second to Hinsdale Central's 369. Glenbrook North was third, Glenbrook South fourth and Neuqua Valley fifth.

"Between Hinsdale and us it was a pretty solid meet," St. Charles North coach Rob Rooney said. "I think the way I look at is we are in the middle of October and the kids are broken down. Our goal was to win but a couple didn't fall the way we wanted."

The medley relay might have been the day's highlight for St. Charles North. Lauren Reynolds started with the back, Angie Chokran swam the breast, Lauren Zima the fly and Kirstin Hutchinson finished off with the free - the result a 3:50.10 to 3:50.16 victory over Hinsdale Central.

Chokran also won the 200 IM. Jessica England finished fourth in the 200 free. Meredith Beard was fourth in diving.

Other top finishers included Zima taking third and Taylor Gannon seventh in the 100 fly, both England and Zima top six in the 500, Reynolds in the top eight in the back and both free relays finishing fourth.

Next up for St. Charles North is Thursday's cross-town battle with St. Charles East.

"They are a much, much improved team," Rooney said.
