Huntley hosts dog festival
Maddy's Doggy Daycare and Banfield Pet Hospital are hosting the first Dog-Tober Festival from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4 at Deicke Park. The event is a showcase for more than 40 pet vendors and organizations. You will also be able to adopt a dog at the event. In honor of St. Francis of Assisi Day, Rev. Michelle McNamara from the First Congregational Church will be on hand to bless the animals. Call (847) 669-9300.
Crown graduates reunite
The Irving Crown High School Class of 1974 will hold its 35-year reunion on Oct. 2 and 3. The reunion starts with a mixer at 7 p.m. Friday at Village Pizza, 2496 North Randall Road. The main event, which costs $60, will be from 6 p.m. to midnight on Saturday at the Golf Club of Illinois, 1575 Edgewood Drive, Algonquin. Holiday Inn Express, 2595 Bunker Hill Road, Algonquin, will host graduates from out of town. The Class of 1974 has created an alumni grant that will fund assemblies and other programs at Dundee-Crown. Proceeds from the event go toward the grant.
Harvest Market open
The Downtown Elgin Harvest Market is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Oct. 8 at the city hall parking lot, the corner of East Highland and Douglas avenues. Area growers bring fresh, quality vegetables, fruits, flowers, bread, meat, eggs, olive oil and more. Special events are planned for each week as well.
