Szafarowicz picks Truman State
Bianca Szafarowicz, who has been a leading attacker for Wheeling's girls volleyball team this fall, has made a verbal commitment to play basketball for Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo.
Szafarowicz was a key member of the Wildcats' Class 4A state third-place basketball team last March under coach Shelly Wiegel.
Szafarowicz, who made the reverse layup her signature move on offense, averaged 14 points, 2.6 steals and 2 assists per game. On defense, she often guarded the opposing team's best player.
"Bianca's all-out hustle and willingness to do whatever the team needed were a major factor for the team's success," Wiegel said. "Bianca has the heart and drive of a champion. She was a captain and led by example every day."
Szafarowicz will join former Wildcat Laura Joya, a senior on the Truman State roster.
