Fallen Bartlett soldier not soon forgotten
Tony Gilski won't soon forget his high school friend Matthew Martinek, and now he'll have a permanent reminder.
Visiting the wake in Schaumburg Friday for Martinek, who died Sept. 11 from combat wounds sustained while serving in Afghanistan, Gilski showed a tattoo he's gotten in Martinek's honor.
The "Tnek" tattoo was a design Martinek had wanted to get himself, said Gilski, 20, who attended Bartlett High School with Martinek.
A funeral Mass for Martinek, 20, is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at St. Hubert Catholic Church in Hoffman Estates.
Tony Gilski, 20, of Bartlett, shows a tattoo he got to honor his fallen friend and classmate. With him are Matt Skwierczynski, 21, Chris Seeman, 20, and Matt Foote, 20, all of Hanover Park.
