Lorenzini's 4 TDs pace Antioch
Antioch's football team knows how to score points and how to start North Suburban Prairie play.
The Sequoits rolled to a 51-21 over visiting Wauconda in its division opener Thursday night.
Antioch fullback Steve Lorenzini had a career night rushing the ball, scoring 4 touchdowns (2, 23, 10 and 64 yards) and carrying the ball 28 times for 213 yards.
Vinnie Holm (9 carries, 156 yards) rushed for two other scores (24 and 67 yards) and kicked a 20-yard field goal.
"It's nice knowing that when the line is doing good then we're all doing good," Lorenzini said of linemen Lee Shannon, Andrew Green, Brandon Ginter, Nick Dampf, Jason Holtkamp and Anthony Cappello.
"We're all executing well and putting up points. When you get the chance and see the end zone you've got to run. I'm not worried about touchdowns. I'm just worried about winning."
Antioch (3-1, 1-0) led 23-14 at half and outscored Wauconda (2-2, 0-1) 28-7 in the second half.
"We'll take it by one (point)," Antioch coach Brian Glashagel said of the win. "We talked to the kids and want to repeat as division champs. It's the old cliché, it's one game at a time.
"We had made mental mistakes (in the first half) and gave them second chances. We had to minimize mistakes and do what we do best. Things just took care of themselves."
Wauconda quarterback Brian Kent (13 of 29 for 236 yards, 2 TDs, 2 interceptions) kept the Bulldogs in the hunt by hitting Brian Dorsey on a pair of touchdowns - 36 and 59 yards. Kent also scored a 4-yard rushing TD on a quarterback keeper.
"We tried to keep close, but unfortunately any time we got close to (Antioch) and kept it at a one-score game, we just couldn't complete a drive," Wauconda coach Dave Mills said. "Our kids are resilient. But we can't to make turnovers and continue to make mistakes against a good team.
"Antioch was a good disciplined team on offense and what they do on defense they do a good job."
