Shredding events Saturday:

Three document shredding events are planned for Saturday, Sept. 19, two in Arlington Heights and one in Hoffman Estates. State Rep. Mark Walker, the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce and AT&T host a free shredding from 9 a.m. to noon at Walker's office, 2015 S. Arlington Heights Road. Limit is three standard-sized boxes. Reservations encouraged; call (847) 640-8645. Just down the street, at 1104 S. Arlington Heights Road, Peoples' Bank of Arlington Heights hosts its annual shredding day from 9 a.m. to noon. A mobile shredding unit from Secure Eco-Shred will accept sensitive personal documents. Limit is four boxes or bags. The bank has recyclable bags for the documents available for pickup at this location and at the 10 S. Vail Ave. branch. For information, (847) 670-0909 or peoplesbanc.com. In Hoffman Estates, the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County hosts a free, drive-up document destruction event in the Village Hall parking lot, 1900 Hassell Road, from 9 to 11 a.m. Documents are shredded on site and taken to the Groot recycling facility in Elk Grove Village for recycling into new paper. Staples and paper clips acceptable; binders are not. The event is for residents of SWANCC-member communities only; proof of residency is required. New library trustee wanted:

The Schaumburg Township District Library board is accepting letters of interest from applicants for the board vacancy created by the recent resignation of Trustee Marilyn Froehlich. Applicants must live in Schaumburg Township and be eligible to vote. Send a letter to the board of trustees, c/o the Schaumburg Township District Library Director, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg, 60193. Letters should describe the applicant and his or her interest, what strengths and capabilities they would bring to the board and what sort of volunteer work they've previously done. Mt. Prospect Fishing Derby:

The Mount Prospect Park District's children's fishing derby returns to Robert T. Jackson Clearwater Park 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, with an educational fishing clinic presented by Ron Aichholzer will at 8:30 a.m. Children 4 to 14 are invited for recreational fishing with the chance to catch bluegill and catfish. Bait will be provided. Bring your own rod, reel and tackle, though a limited number of rods and reels will be available for use that day. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The fee is $6 per child. Register online, by phone or in person at any park district facility. Call (847) 255-5380.
